Water Dragons is a 5 reel, 30 payline online slot game brought to you by IGT. The game was originally a popular slot machine at land-based casinos before IGT decided to produce its online counterpart. Drawing inspiration from a Japanese theme, the game represents vibrant colours and lively background music to add to the excitement of the game.

When it comes to slot makers, there is always room for one more Asian themed game. Water Dragons at least takes a different angle to the Pandas and Dragons that usually dominate these games. This is based on the golden carp, with some pearls and the odd dragonfly thrown in. This is a simple 30 line video slot with only one interesting feature – the ability to gain extra wilds during the free spins round by collecting pearls.
One thing I like about the soundtrack (which is a standard plinky-plinky generic Asian theme) is that small wins do not interrupt it. This gives Water Dragons a relaxed feel. When you get the oyster symbols which kick off the bonus some sounds will overlay, with the musical scale coming in to make whether you get the 3rd one more ‘exciting’. The music ramps up a notch during the free spins round to break you out of your relaxed stupor.
Graphics are modern and sharp though they are not hugely impressive. The only stand out for me on this front was the fish (which jumps out from the bottom of the screen) which comes when you get a big win.
This game is available at most IGT casinos including Sky Vegas UK, Mr Green and the home to many Vegas games – Spin & Win Casino.
There are 30 lines on this 5 reel, 3 row slot – and you can select as many or few as you like. The minimum spin amount online is just 1c (30c for the full lines). Keep in mind that many live casinos will opt for bigger minimums. You’ll find auto spin in this game – which is ideal for this type of low-intensity slot. Most of the big paying symbols are fish. I needed a few minutes to tune in with these, as they are fairly similar looking at first glance. The top one of the most orange, this is worth 1000 coins for 5 and 300 coins for 4 of a kind. Next is the orange and white one, worth up to 750, and then the golden / yellow fish at 400. The blue fish, flowers, dragonfly, bonsai and pagoda are the remaining symbols. There are no playing cards in this game.
You’ll find two special symbols. Firstly, the Water Dragons logo, which is wild. This substitutes for all of the regular symbols, with the exception of the bonus. The bonus symbol only appears on the middle 3 reels. This is an oyster full of pearls. All 3 will trigger the bonus round, and also pay 3 times your total bet.
There is only a single free spins round feature for this game. You can only get 15 free spins with no other options from the main game. This can be retriggered, up to a (theoretical) maximum of 225 spins. An extra symbol appears on the reels during this bonus, this is a single pearl. Below the reels you’ll find a list of the main symbols, each with 3 empty slots next to them. Each time you get a pearl, it moves into an empty spot. 3 will make that particular fish into an extra wild. In this way you can end up with several wilds – any big wins will come from your last few spins (unless you are lucky enough to retrigger). This did add some extra interest to an otherwise basic free spins round for me. This is the same concept which is used in the Kitsch cat-themed slot Kitty Glitter.
There is little doubt that this slot is professionally created – as you would expect from IGT. I do wonder whether there is anything particularly compelling in this game compared to the many other Asian themed options out there. 100 Pandas, Jewel of the Arts and Red Mansions are all worth checking out as viable alternatives. This is a low –intensity and relaxing slot, which I know does appeal to a lot of players. The free spins round with the pearl-collection feature does add a little bit of interest, though not enough to keep me coming back regularly to this game. I’d suggest this is worth a spin for players who enjoy relaxing video slot titles – though if you are looking for action there are better games to choose from.
Enjoy the sounds of the orient in this slot based on the Chinese legend of the Koi Carp who climbs a waterfall to become a dragon. Within this fishy theme is a retriggerable free spins round and some nice bonuses. Play a demo for free right here.

This slot bought to you by IGT plays out over 5 reels with 30 paylines. The two main symbols to look out for are the Pearls and Water Dragons. Naturally the Water Dragon is Wild and substitues for every symbol except the Scatter. Landing 3 Scatter pearl icons on reels 2 to 4 pays 3x your total bet and triggers 15 free spins. More free spins can be retriggered during this feature with 15 more free spins awarded for every 3 bonus symbols you land, up to a maximum of 225. When reel 5 contains a pearl during this round it turns a symbol at the bottom of the screen into a pearl. If another pearl appears on the reels in the remaining free spins they line up in a row. The aim is to hit 3 pearls or more in order to turn a Koi symbol wild. For every additional set of 3 pearls you get, another more valuable Koi symbol will tranform to Wild.

Although Water Dragons began its life as a land based game, it’s made a great transition to online play with the help of the renowned developers at IGT. Naturally the symbols are Japanese themed with bold coloured fish and lotus flowers. Watery sound effects with a soothing eastern soundtrack add to the atmosphere. In terms of returns, the big money is to be made during free spins. This benefits low stakes players since you don’t have to play the maximum pay lines in order to get the 3 scatters necessary to start free spins. There is also a base game jackpot of 1,000x your line bet if you’re lucky enough to get 5 Red Koi Carps. In terms of excitement levels, this slot can feel a little mundane unless you reach the free spins feature which adds complexity since extra Wilds in this round increase the frequency and value of prizes.
